The Cuillins The best known of Skye's mountains, with the formidable Black Cuillin range rated among the most difficult in Britain. Its 8 mile horseshoe-shaped ridge contains 11 Munros - mountain peaks over 3,000ft, with 9 further Tops over 3,000ft. Sgurr Alasdair is the highest at 3,255ft (992m).
Walking on Skye You don't have to be a tough mountaineer to enjoy many of the pleasures of Skye. There is pleasant walking of all categories either from the cottage or from other centres. There are many guide books of which one of the best and most recent is 50 Walks on Skye. There is a copy in the cottage.
In the north-east of the island is a potential 19 mile walk along the Trotternish Ridge of spectacularly collapsed mountains including Storr (2,400ft) where you will find the mis-shapen pillars and piles of rock such as the Old Man of Storr and the Quiraing. The sheer cliff faces transform dramatically with the changing light.
