The Cottage Crepigill Cottage is probably around 200 years old and was supposed to have been the Blacksmith's place of work and rest in times long gone by. Although it now has a tiled roof it was known to have a thatched roof fifty years ago.
But it is smaller than typical long croft houses of the era - perhaps because the 'Smith had no need of a cow for milk (or warmth in the house in winter). It became the home of Miss Murchison, the housekeeper to the laird of the estate, in the 1940s, since when the cottage has been modernised on a number of occasions.
Important improvements, only around 15 years ago, include the kitchen extension on the front of the house and an inside toilet - so that the occupants don't have to go out in a howling gale at night!

The cottage has been upgraded and refurbished to a very high standard, while maintaining its essential beauty and character, perfect for two who enjoy one another's company in wonderful, intimate surroundings!
Where it is Crepigill Cottage is near to Portree, the island's main town of 2,000 inhabitants. It is 5 miles north of the town on the Dunvegan road and is very convenient for all areas. The crofting district of Crepigill is part of the Skeabost township which also includes Tote, Prabost, Peinmore and Carbost (but not the Carbost of Talisker Malt fame which is on the west coast).

Crepigill (spelt Crepkill on some maps) has a map reference of NG 424 485 on Ordnance Survey Map 23, or click Multimap - it's in the corner between the A850 and B8036. Crepigill consists of 8 houses varying from the wee Cottage to a large modern bungalow. The Cottage was once separated from the other houses by the single-track road, but since the modern road by-passed it 20 years ago the old track serves as access and parking only.
From the Skye Bridge, Crepigill is around 40 miles - around 1 hour travelling time once you are on the island. If you want to come Over the Sea to Skye you may arrive by ferry at Armadale (50 miles) or Kylerhea (45 miles) but these operate in summer only. From the Outer Hebrides, the Western Isles, you would arrive at Uig (10 miles).
